I understand the struggle of having sensitive skin. Even the smallest fabric fraction or extended period of sun exposure can cause some adverse reactions. If you have skin conditions like eczema or psoriasis then it may cause more issues for you. Wanting to have tattoos to feel good about your skin can be a fine idea. But can you actually get a tattoo if you have sensitive skin?
Having sensitive skin and wanting to get inked can be a bit complicated desire. Getting poked by a tattoo needle multiple times on sensitive skin, just hearing it might make you shiver. Fear not, I am here to explain everything you need to know regarding getting a tattoo if you have sensitive skin in today’s piece.
Understanding Sensitive Skin
Sensitive skin is characterized by heightened reactivity to various stimuli such as beauty products, certain fabrics, weather changes, and allergens. It often exhibits traits like itching, redness, swelling, and irritation to stimuli more easily than non-sensitive skin. The medical term for this issue is Sensitive Skin syndrome or SSS. If you have sensitive skin then there is no way to make it non-sensitive, but you can take medication and follow a healthy and proper lifestyle so that your skin does not get irritated.
Getting A Tattoo on Sensitive Skin: Can You Do It
After going through the above portion where I said even weather changes or beauty products cause irritation on sensitive skin, it is normal to give up hope on getting tattoo on a sensitive skin. But wait! Don’t give up on your dream just yet.
It is possible to get a tattoo if you have sensitive skin. Just make sure you have your skin-related issue or disease under control, and get confirmation from your dermatologists that your skin is prepared to take the plunge.
I have tattooed on many clients who had sensitive skin. I followed all the basic rules regarding tattooing on sensitive skin such as maintaining a completely sterile environment, doing a patch test, choosing quality ink, etc. And I never had an issue tattooing on sensitive skin. Many tattoo artists do not take into consideration the quality of the ink they are using. Regular ink may not be suitable for sensitive skin. You need high-quality tattoo ink that is formulated for sensitive skin.
But there were times when a client came in with extreme eczema and other skin issues, I recommended them to visit a dermatologist first. Tattooing over sensitive skin that is already irritated or has other severe issues can complicate the tattooing procedure. It can cause increased pain during the procedure, delayed healing, and can cause permanent scarring.

4 Factors to Consider Before Getting A Tattoo on Sensitive Skin
Make sure to consider the following factors before you get a tattoo on your sensitive skin.
1. Dermatologists advice
Even if your skin is fine at the moment and you are not facing any adverse reactions, still you should visit your dermatologist before getting a tattoo. You can study your case history and current condition and provide you with personalized advice on whether you can get a tattoo or not.

Do your research and find a reputable tattoo ink brand that provides high-quality ink specially formulated for sensitive skin. Choosing a regular ink for your sensitive skin can be a bad idea.

4. Current condition of the skin
If your skin is currently irritated for some reason or you have any existing skin disease that is in server condition at the moment, then consider not getting the tattoo until your skin calms down a bit. Even if it takes a few days, you should wait till the skin is not irritated or the skin disease is under control.
